Using Library Study Rooms

Study rooms must be checked-out using to your library account. Please visit a Library Desk to use a study room. Bring your SCC College ID or government-issued ID. You must be a current SCC student to check-out a study room.

Study rooms are first come, first served unless you make a reservation.

Review the Study Room Rules below. By using a study room, you agree to follow these rules.

Study Room Reservations:

  • Only current SCC students can make a reservation.
  • You may reserve a study room for an available date/time up to 2 weeks in the future.
  • Reservations are a maximum of 2 hours.
    • Back-to-back reservations are not allowed. However, if no one else has reserved, you may renew for 2 more hours (visit the library desk).
  • You may have up to 2 reservations at a time.
  • For reservations, you must still visit a library desk upon arrival to check-out the room.
  • Your reservation will be canceled after 10 minutes if you have not checked-out your study room.
  • Please cancel your reservation if your plans change and you know you will not use. This allows the room to be available for other students.
  • Reservations are made on the hour (i.e. 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, etc.). However, you can check-out an available study room at any time.
  • If no one is using the room prior to your reservation, you may check it out early.

Study Room Rules

Failure to follow these rules will result in loss of privileges.

  • Library study rooms are for current SCC Students only.
  • Study rooms must be checked-out before use by visiting a library desk and showing your SCC College ID or gov’t issued ID.
  • Students may check-out an available study room for immediate use or make a reservation for up to 2 weeks in the future.
  • Reservations and check-outs are a maximum of 2 hours.
    • Back-to-back reservations are not allowed. However, if no one else has reserved the room, it can be renewed for 2 more hours twice (for a total of 6 hours). Visit a library desk to renew.
    • Also, if you need the room for less than 2 hours, please let library staff know so we can shorten the time to allow other students to reserve.
  • When leaving, visit a library desk to check-in the study room so that it is removed from your account and available for others. Also, please close the door and turn out the lights.
  • Reservations are canceled after 10 minutes if you have not checked out your study room.
  • You may have up to 2 reservations at a time.
  • Reservations are made on the hour (i.e. 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, etc.). However, you can check-out an available study room at any time. Visit library staff if you need a reservation at a different time.
  • Cancel your reservation if your plans change and you know you will not use.
  • Students who have made a reservation have priority and check-outs may be shortened to accommodate a reservation.
  • Max-Capacity: No more than 3 people in the small study rooms (Giles) and no more than 8 in the large rooms.
  • Large study rooms are meant for group study (3 or more). Individuals may use large study rooms if not in use but may be asked to move if requested by a group. Please reserve rooms that appropriate to the size of your group.
  • Library study rooms are for academic and course use only. Students who are not actively doing schoolwork may be asked to leave (i.e. watching movies, hanging out, etc.).
  • Be aware of noise, especially in groups. Neighboring study rooms should not be able to hear you.
  • Lights must remain on at all times when a room in occupied.
  • All furniture, supplies, and equipment should be respected and kept in its original location and condition (including erase whiteboards). Nothing should be removed or added. Ask library staff if something is needed, including dry erase markers/eraser.
  • Use of computers and internet resources in these rooms must follow all college policies.
  • Food and drink are permitted as long as rooms are left clean.
  • If you leave the study room unattended, your reservation or check-out will be revoked, and any belongings left will be sent to lost & found.
  • These policies are subject to change, and the SCC Library reserves the right to limit future use.

How to Make a Study Room Reservation

  1. Go to the Library Catalog.
  2. Sign-in to the Library Catalog with your SCC Username and Password. Choose the "Student & Staff" sign-in option.

  3. Once signed-in, click the location/campus where you want to reserve a study room (Giles, Cherokee, Downtown).

  4. View the available rooms. Note the equipment and furniture available in each room.
  5. Click "Request" next to the room you want to reserve. If you do not see the "Request" link, make sure you are logged in (Also note, you need to be a current SCC Student).

  6. Now view the availability of the room by clicking "Check Availability." See if the time you want to reserve is available. The calendar opens in a new tab.

  7. Close the calendar tab (or return to original tab), and select the start date and time, as well as the end date and time for your reservation. Note that the time is in 24-hour time (or military time), so under the Hours, selecting 1 is 1am. Select 13 for 1pm; 14 for 2pm, etc. Also note that reservation can only be made on the hour (8am, 9am, 10am, etc.). If you need to request a more specific time, please contact Ask a Librarian or visit the library.
    1. Reservations cannot be made more than 2 weeks in the future.
    2. Reservations have a maximum duration of 2 hours. Back-to-back reservations are not allowed. However, if no one else has requested the room at the end of your 2 hours, you may visit the library desk to renew the room. You may renew 2 for a total of 6 hours if the room is available.
    3. You can make up to 2 reservations at a time.
  8. You will receive an email to your SCC email account confirming the request.
  9. On the day of your reservation, you should visit a library desk upon arrival to check-out the room. If you do not check-out the room within 10 minutes of the reservation time, the reservation will be cancelled.
  10. When you leave the study room, you should visit the library desk again to check-in the study room before you.

How to Cancel or View a Reservation

  1. Go to the Library Study Rooms page in the Catalog.
  2. Sign-in to the Library Catalog (top-right) with your SCC Username and Password. Choose the "Student & Staff" sign-in option.

  3. Once signed-in, click on your name in the top-right corner.
     
  4. Choose "My Requests” from the drop-down menu.

  5. On the Requests page, you will see all your requests - both for study room and other library items.
  6. Find the request(s) for “Library Study Rooms.” Each request shows the date and time of your reservation.
  7. Click "Cancel" next to the request you want to cancel.

  8. Then choose "Cancel It" on the confirmation message.
  9. A pop-up message should then confirm the cancellation.You should also get an email.
