Faculty & Staff Guide

This guide provides faculty and staff with information about SCC library services.

Linking to Streaming/Online Videos

This guide provides information about streaming/online video collections available through the SCC Library databases.

Streaming video is an exciting way to present concepts in course work.  It is convenient and easy to use. The SCC Library provides access to streaming video collections on a variety of topics. These videos can be viewed by SCC students, faculty and staff, on or off-campus. Streaming videos can also be shown in the classroom, or linked/embedded in D2L. Below are links to the collections themselves. This page includes instructions on adding these videos in D2L, etc.

Videos provide an additional voice in the materials: textbook, instructor, and video. Sometimes between several sources, students will begin to see a connection of the course content.

General recommendations, when working with video content:

  • Consider embedding the videos within your D2L content pages if available.

  • Keep videos under 10 minutes, unless it’s extremely engaging.

  • Use videos as examples for modeling presentations or speeches.

  • Stay away from  "talking heads" – the video should create a strong learning experience with an engaging presentation.

  • Create dynamic content using narrative along with embedded videos to create a seamless presentation with good flow.
