Kanopy is a video-streaming platform dedicated to thoughtful and thought-provoking films, that foster learning and conversation. Kanopy delivers a diverse collection of 30,000+ enriching films, available to stream anytime and anywhere — from desktop to TV to tablet. With an ideal platform for showcasing independent films, documentaries, international films, classics, award-winning film and more that fuels lifelong learning, they are on a mission to ensure that everyone has access to enriching films that bridge cultural boundaries, spark discussion, and expand worldviews.

Kanopy allows searching by title, actor, director or subject, browsing browsing or searching within the subject areas. Subject topic areas include Documentaries, The Arts, Business, Education, Global Studies & Language, Health, Media & Communications, Sciences, Social Sciences, Instructional Films and Lessons. Click on the link below to search.

Closed Captioning Closed Captioning:

Most of the titles in the collection have closed-captions and many have interactive transcripts.  You can use the filters on the left side to limit search results to titles with closed-captioning. It will list if there are transcripts by default.

Embedding a Video

How to insert Kanopy video in D2L:

Option 1 - If you want to add more text above or below the video:

1. Search Kanopy for the video you want to use. Click on the video.
2. Click on "Share" button under the video, then click on "Embed"  and copy the Embed Code.

3. In D2L go to the Content tool and click on the learning module you wish to work in.
4. Click Upload/Create and then Create File.
5. You are creating a web page of content, so you may put text above or below the video if you wish.
6. Click the Insert Stuff icon. The Insert Stuff dialog box will appear (see image below).
7. Click Enter Embed Code, and paste the code in the provided box.
8. Click Next.
9. If this is the first time you have used Credo Videos, you will need to check Always trust this URL and click Allow.
10. Click Insert.
11. When your page is complete, click Save and Closed.

Option 2: (No text around the video)
1. Search Kanopy for the video you want to use. Click on the video.
2. Click on "Share" button under the video, then click on "Embed"  and copy the Embed Code.
3. In D2L go to the Content tool and click on the learning module you wish to work in.
4. Click "Upload/Create" and then click on "Video or Audio."
5. Enter Embed Code.
6. Enter a Title.
7. Click Save

 

There are additional player features you may want to check before publishing, including full screen play, captions on/off, and speed adjustment.

The first time a video is inserted from a particular source, you may be asked to allow content from the site.
