picture of Ron Eagle Chasing Please join us on Thurs. November 2nd, 2023 for an exciting event at the SCC Library. The SCC Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging committee and Library are pleased to welcome a special guest speaker, Mr. Ron Eagle Chasing, to give a talk on the Sioux culture and way of life. Mr. Eagle Chasing is a Traditional dancer, who has been dancing for 30 years. He is a member of the Lakota Sioux tribe living on the Cheyenne River Reservation in Eagle Butte, South Dakota.

He served in Vietnam and struggled with PTSD after serving. He found relief and healing through his traditional dancing and has become one of the spiritual leaders of his tribe. He travels and sings the spirit songs of the Lakota.

Joining Mr. Eagle Chasing, will be local artist Frank Mayes. Mr. Mayes is a member of the Spartanburg Artist Guild and has formed a close relationship with Mr. Eagle Chasing and his tribe. He has painted several tribe members and will be displaying his paintings in the SCC Library for the month of November. Mr. Mayes is a realism painter and uses a style he called "implied detail."  An artist talk with Mr. Mayes about his techniques and style will follow the Sioux Cultural Talk.

The event will take place in two parts:

Sioux Cultural Talk at 12:30pm

Artist Talk at 2:00pm

Both events will take place at the Spartanburg Community College, Giles Campus Library.
