Finding Travel Information & Tips
Information Where to Look Tips
Flights

Check major airline provider websites, such as Delta, American Airlines, etc.

Also check travel websites such as Kayak, Expedia, Orbitz, etc.

Google Flights can be very useful.

It is recommended you arrive at the airport 3 hours before an international flight. What time would your supervisor have to be at the airport?

Make sure any layovers between flights are long enough to make the connection (at least 1 hour for domestic; at least 2 hours for international).

Arrival and departure times are listed in the local time zone of the arriving or departing city.

Hotels

Use Trip Advisor to find a good hotel in a good location.

Once decided, shop various websites for the best price; always check the hotel's website first, then check other travel websites like Booking.com, Expedia, Orbitz, etc.

Also, you can check on Google to verify the reviews and pictures.  Google Maps can show you the surrounding area with streetviews.

In Trip Advisor, you can view a map of the city and choose hotels based on location. Filter by rating and consider traveler reviews to decide on quality.
Car Rental

Check major car rental company websites, such as Hertz, Enterprise, Budget, etc.

Also check travel websites such as Kayak, Expedia, Orbitz, etc.

Double-check your pick-up and drop-off location. Is it at the airport? If so, which one? Or is it at a downtown / city location.

Is the rental car office inside the main terminal of the airport (If so, which one), or do you take a shuttle bus to a remote office?

Cars usually have to be returned with a full tank of gas, so finding the closest gas station to the drop-off location is important.

Transportation Options

A good travel guide book for a country or city will list the best option(s) for getting to and from the airport, as well as around the city.

Airport websites will also often list options for getting to and from the airport.

The public transportation website will show you what's available, allow you to look up schedules, prices, tickets, etc.

You can use Google Maps to see travel times for a variety of options, including public transportation.

Research the best method of transportation for your supervisor. Is it a rental car, taxi, airport shuttle bus/train, or public transportation (bus, train, etc.)? Consider price, time, and convenience.

Are Uber and Lyft available in this city?  Will you need to make an account for the supervisor?

Consider whether the airport is the only place the supervisor will need to go - can they walk other places? - or do they need to go to other places.

Is the area around your hotel walkable? What's the weather like? Are there restaurant options close by?

What public transportation is available (see guide book or find official website)? How close is the nearest stop to your hotel? Is there a stop at the airport? Is there an express airport bus or train?

Restaurants

Use Trip Advisor to find a good restaurant in a good location.

Use links in Trip Advisor to check menu options, prices, etc. If not linked in Trip Advisor, try to find the restaurant's official website.

Check Google, Facebook, or Instagram to see pictures of the food, location, and ambiance.

In Trip Advisor, you can view a map of the city with your hotel marked. There is a filter that shows nearby restaurants. Also, can filter restaurants by rating and consider traveler reviews to decide on quality.

Check Google and social media for additional information.

Things to Do

A good travel guide book for a country or city will list the main sightseeing attraction for the city, as well as some recommended companies that provide tours.

Trip Advisor also provides ratings and reviews of sightseeing options, tour operators, etc.

Consider what your supervisor might like, as well as the ratings and reviews on a site like Trip Advisor.

How far away is the attraction? Or for tours, where is the pick-up/meet-up points. Where does it end?

Some tours and attractions only operate on certain days of the week.

How much time is needed? How much activity/walking?
