1. Getting Started

Exclamation PointFirst Things First - Assignment Requirements

Before you begin, examine the assignment requirements closely.

Q. How long is the journal article summary?

This could be a page length, a page range, a word count, etc. Check  your assignment, but in past, the length for your summary has been half a page or 150-200 words, plus an MLA citation, plus 10 medical terms defined.

Q. How many sources?

For this assignment, you only need one source (your journal article).  Then, you will write a  summary of the article in your own words.  Be sure to highlight the main points of the article in your summary.

Q. What are the journal article requirements?

Your article must:

  • be peer-reviewed
  • contain 10 medical terms
  • be about one of the body systems
  • be easy for you to understand
  • be between 1,000-4,000 words
  • have an approved document type
  • be no more than 5 years old

Q. How do you cite sources?

Most instructors will ask you to use MLA format for your citations, but double-check to make sure. You may want to remind yourself what information you need to create the MLA Works Cited page and in-text citations.

Q. What is due?

You will turn in the following:

  • A copy of your journal article
  • Your article summary with MLA citation
  • A list of 10 medical terms from the article (defined)

Q. When is it due?

Plan out your time, so you don't get stuck doing all the work at the last minute. Plan extra time in case you have problems or get stuck.
