ENG 101 - Great Presidential Campaigns (Jamison)

2. Explore Your Topic

After thoroughly examining your assignment, now it's time to look for some initial background research on your topic.  Read the following entry, from The Handy American Government Book to learn more about presidential campaigns.

Analyze Your Topic

As you do you initial investigation of the presidential campaigns, consider the following:

What made a particular presidential campaign successful?

Did the campaign ultimately live up to its promises during the president's administration?

Investigate the rhetorical strategies and devices used in the campaign.

Look into the successes, scandals, and spins of the administration.

Selecting Your Campaign

Select a successful (winning) presidential campaign in the past 50 years for an administration that has served at least one full term. It should not be the current administration, however. Note: or get approval from your instructor to do another campaign.

View the links below to see overviews of each president's administration, as well as a bit about their campaigns in Presidential Administration Profiles for Students. Use these overviews to help you decide which campaign you want to choose for your paper.
