2. Selecting a Pathology

For this assignment, first you must select a pathology category from the following list:

Degenerative (ex Arthritis)
Respiratory (ex. Emphysema)
Digestive (ex. Hiatal Hernia)
Urinary (ex. Hydronephrosis)
Biliary (ex. Cholelithiasis)
Trauma (ex. Pneumothorax, fracture)
Skeletal (ex. Osteoporosis)
Cardiovascular (ex. Septal defects, aneurysm)
Inflammatory (ex. Pneumonia)
Neoplastic (ex. Any type of cancer)
Central Nervous System (ex. Hydrocephalus)
Lymphatic (ex. Hodgkin's)
Metabolic/Endocrine (ex. Diabetes mellitus)
Hereditary (ex. Marfan syndrome, Turner syndrome)
Congenital other than scoliosis, double collecting system, duplicate organs, and situs inversus (ex. spina bifida)

Next, choose a pathology from one of the categories above to research. Before you totally commit to a pathology, you'll want to make sure there are enough outside sources on the topic for your assignment. Not every pathology is going to have information written about it. Pathologies that aren't as well known may be harder to find sources for. Do some searching in the library's databases to make sure there are sources, and Ask-A-Librarian to double-check if you're not sure there are enough sources for a topic you're really interested in.
